Literature, the students will build competence in the three main genres: prose, drama and poetry. They will read, interpret, evaluate and respond to a range of literature in English. The range includes prose, drama and poetry from the works of Shakespeare to contemporary literature. They will deepen their understanding and appreciation of the ways in which writers use the English language to express meaning and achieve effects. They should read for pleasure and explore wider and universal issues beside the indigenous, promoting better understanding of the world and themselves.
